Ride for Peace in 2008!

In 1999, Jeremy Gilley set out to create the first ever world peace day with a fixed calendar date. After traveling the world and meeting all sorts of people he successfully lobbied to many governments and in 2002, the United Nations, created that day ... the 21st of September every year. Its hard to believe that we as a planet never had this day and we finally have it here and now. Most people haven’t heard of it yet and its through events like "Ride For Peace" that the word is getting out there.

“If you were going to build a house you would start with one brick. If we were to create a peaceful world we should start with one day.” Jeremy Gilley, www.peaceoneday.org

The first annual event was held last year in the United Kingdom. The event was a huge success and is expanding this year. We have sent out letters with DVD's to every cable wake park in the world encouraging them to hold their own event this year. We already have several cables committed and we are aiming for many more! So, if you are involved with a cable wake park, please ask the powers that be to get involved and run an event this year.

“Those who have had opportunities to travel abroad, ride and meet new people from different parts of the world know full well how easily our perceptions and ideas about others can be changed. Stereotypes and preconceived notions disappear and a sense of understanding, respect and appreciation for other people and cultures develops. This type of event not only provides an opportunity to expose our sport, get people involved and actively participate, but it also has great potential to send an important message to the world by promoting peaceful relations, building cultural bridges and friendships and fostering teamwork and a sense of community through sport. If we as riders can love and respect one another despite our different nationalities, religions and cultures because we share a common bond and passion that helps unite and bring us together, then others can as well." - Danielle Crawford

So, instead of trying to explain what the event is about and the connection between Jeremy and wakeboarding, you should check out the videos. You can watch them up on the "Ride For Peace" web site www.rideforpeace.tv or or the Front Edge web site www.frontedge.tv There is some awesome footage with great rail riding and even a toeside S-bend 9! In between this great riding you will hear more information on the event and learn about what's going on.

2007 WWA Wake Park Series Final at Ski Rixen

By WWA Press Release

Ski Rixen hosted the final stop of the 2007 WWA Wake Park Series presented by Ten-80 this past weekend in Deerfield Beach, Florida. The event was the last stop of the cumulative series that was held at four locations across the country. There could not have been better weather for the event, as spectators poured into Quiet Waters Park throughout the day to watch the totally radical on-water action. The contest incorporated two new divisions including beginner and intermediate wakeboard that brought some of the newcomers of the sport to come out, ride and enjoy the event.

The crowd had their eye on Tommy Fooshee, who led the series in the Pro Men division coming into the last event. Tom had won the first stop at his home park, Texas Ski Ranch, as well as the Nationals at OWC and has been killing it all season long. As the Pro Men division moved on to the eight-man head-to-head finals, Fooshee found himself moving on to the top four and wound up getting taken out by local Ski Rixen rider, Marc Shuster.

Rob Mapp, another local Ski Rixen rider, came into the event in third place in the overall Wake Park Series standings and threw down all day long to make it into the Final head-to-head round against Shuster. Mapp, who won the KC Classic back in August, rode first in the head-to-head heat and completely killed it, landing a switch toeside 720 and a massive backside 720 off the kickers as well as an assortment of savory aerial maneuvers that left the crowd in complete awe.

After all was said and done, Tom Fooshee sealed up the series with his fourth place finish behind Donald Shelbrick and Rob Mapp overtook Josh Rice with the first place finish to come in second overall in the series.

As for the wakeskaters, once again Andrew Pastura made it very difficult on all the riders in his division by winning every heat he rode in on Saturday. His winning line in the finals consisted of a 3 shuv, backside bigspin, switch frontside bigspin, kickflip, varial flip and switch front bigspin off the last kicker and sealed the win to give him his second contest win of the series. Bret Little, another Texas native, sealed the overall series title with his fourth place finish in the final heat after winning two other stops including the series opener in Texas and the WWA Wake Park Nationals at OWC in September.

Anna Hajek of Orlando, Florida was the overall series winner for the Open Women division. Anna has stepped it up and progressed all season long landing frontside 720’s off the kicker at her home cable park, the Orlando Watersports Complex. Josh Bank out of Boca Raton, Florida took the overall series title in the Junior Men division. Josh rode solid all year long and sealed the overall series at his home cable of Ski Rixen. Look for these two to be training all winter long to come out and make a serious impact on their respective divisions next year.

The 2007 WWA Wake Park Series Finals was brought to you by Ten-80, Ski Rixen USA, Freestyle Watches, Shred Ready Helmets, WebCast TV and WakeBoarding Magazine. The official media source of the WWA Wake Park Series.

Stay tuned as WebCast TV will be airing the Series Finals on www.Ten-80.com.

2007 King of Wake Crowned

By WSM Press Release

ORLANDO, Fla. – After sweeping the Tigé Pro-Am Wakeboard Championships, Phillip Soven, 18, of Longwood, Fla., made action sports history as the 2007 Wakeboard World Champion became the first rider ever to win the Pro Wakeboard Tour, the WWA World Series and the King of Wake World Cup in the same year.

“Ever since I was a little kid, I have dreamt of winning the World Cup,” said Soven. “It’s an incredible feeling to accomplish your dreams.”

The King of Wake World Cup is the ultimate wakeboarding series, bringing together the sport’s top events under one ultimate season-long points chase. The 2007 series included five stops on the Pro Wakeboard Tour, plus the Wake Games, the National Championships and the World Championships, and concluded with the Pro-Am Championships.

Of the nine contests in the series, Soven has captured seven wins, including the Wake Games, four Pro Tour stops, the World Championships and the Pro-Am Championships. These victories launched the two-time world champion to the top of the standings, earning Soven the 2007 King of Wake title and the largest cash prize in the history of the sport, $25,000.

The Florida native becomes the youngest rider, at 18, ever to win the King of Wake World Cup.

2007 Tige Pro-Am - Day 3 of 3

By WSM Press Release

CANCUN, Mexico — The best riders from around the world gathered at La Isla Mall in Cancun, Mexico today for the final round of competition at the 2007 Tigé Pro-Am Wakeboard Championships, presented by Rockstar Energy Drink.

The Pro Men's division featured a "skins" format; a style of competition allowing riders to continue riding, as long as they keep winning their heats. Phillip Soven (Longwood, FL) was the third rider off the dock today in the Pro Men’s Division. The 2007 world champion then proceeded to sweep the competition, winning all five heats. Claiming a total of six “skins” or wins throughout the contest, Soven captured the top spot to take home the title.

Emily Copeland Durham (Orlando, FL) and Raequel Hoffman (Butte Valley, CA) entered today’s Pro Women finals as the top-two seeded riders. Both shredders put together some stellar runs, but 2006 world champion Dallas Friday (Orlando, FL) rose above the competition to take home the title.

In the Pro Wakeskate division, all eyes were on Nick Taylor (Holmes Beach, FL) as the 2006 Tigé Pro-Am champion was on pace to repeat and take home his second consecutive Pro-Am title. However, in the final round of competition, 2007 world champion Reed Hansen (Groveland, FL) pulled-off the upset to capture the win.

2007 has undoubtedly been A.J. Racinelli’s year and today the Santa Ana, California rider solidified that statement by capturing the 2007 Tigé Pro-Am title for the Jr. Men’s Division. The Pro-Am victory marks Racinelli’s fourth win in the 2007 King of Wake series.

Bart Copeland (Denver, CO) took charge for the second straight day in the competition, claiming the title in the Open Men’s Division.

In the Latin American Division, Alejo Depalma took control out on the water to capture the title. Depalma beat out eight other riders, including brother Teki for the win.

The amateur divisions also took to the water today for their final rounds of competition. Cale Middleton (Hendersonville, TN) claimed the Amateur Boys title, while Ashley Hughes (Canyon Lake, CA) took first place in the Amateur Women’s Division. In the Amateur Wakeskate Division, Bobby Sutherland (St. Louis, MO) rode away with the win.

2007 Tige Pro-Am - Day 2 of 3

By WSM Press Release

CANCUN, Mexico — Fans filled the shores of La Isla Mall in Cancun, Mexico today for the second day of competition at the 2007 Tigé Pro-Am Wakeboard Championships, presented by Rockstar Energy Drink. Day two featured 60 riders and 10 divisions.

Women’s Wakeskating opened the day with Lacey Menkin (Miami, FL), Elizabeth Talansky (Longwood, FL), and Megan McNeil (Deland, FL) battling for the Women’s Wakeskate title. All three riders had a great showing, but it was 2007 world champion, Megan McNeil, who claimed the top spot. Menkin and Talansky finished second and third, respectively.

“The Tigé Pro-Ams are always packed with talented riders,” said McNeil. “I felt I rode well today and I’m stoked that I am leaving Cancun with a win.”

The wakeskating action did not end there, as the Amateur Wakeskate and Pro Wakeskate Divisions hit the water for their semifinal rounds. Bobby Sutherland (St. Louis, MO) led the Amateur Wakeskate Division today with a perfect score, while Nick Taylor (Holmes Beach, FL) paced the Pro Wakeskate Division with a score of 87.67. Both riders will advance to tomorrow’s finals.

The Pro Men’s Division featured a “skins” format; a style of competition allowing riders to continue riding, as long as they keep winning their heats. Four-time X Games champion, Danny Harf (Clermenot, FL) started out strong, winning the first-two heats of the day. In the third heat, Trevor Hansen (Groveland, FL) ended Harf’s run. However, Hansen’s run was short-lived, as Andrew Adkison (Windermere, FL) won the fourth heat, taking Hansen’s place in the final heat of the day for Pro Men. In the final heat, Phillip Soven (Longwood, FL) took control on the water, claiming the high score in the final heat, earning the top-seeding in tomorrow’s finals.

The Pro Women’s Division took to the water today for their semifinals. Raequel Hoffman (Butte Valley, CA) took control out on the water, leading the division with a score of 61.11. Hoffman will be joined by the top-three riders from both heats, including younger sister Shawna at tomorrow’s finals.

Jimmy LaRiche (Boca Raton, FL) led the Junior Men’s Division for the second straight day, after earning a score of 70.00 during today’s semifinals. LaRiche will be joined by the top-three riders from both Junior Men heats for tomorrow’s finals.

Bryan Kryzda took control of the largest groups out on the water today, the Latin America Division, with a score 56.11. Kryzda will advance to tomorrow’s finals, where he will be joined by eight other Latin American riders.

Amateur wakeboarders also hit the water today for their semifinals. Cale Middleton (Hendersonville, TN) led the Amateur Boys Division today with a score of 60.00, while Ashley Hughes (Canyon Lake, CA) took control on the water, leading the Amateur Women’s Division with a score of 32.78.

Bart Copeland led the Open Men’s Division today with a score 61.67. Copeland will be joined by the top-three riders from both heats for tomorrow’s finals.
