Liquid Force Brings The Truth #50
By Liquid Force Press Release
LF faithful, welcome to the latest edition of The Truth. We have plenty to tell you this week, so sit down, relax and enjoy the latest news on events, team riders, happenings and the world we call Liquid Force…
Wakestock...a great weekend for wake enthusiasts and the LF team! Each year our riders travel to countless contests and events that all seem to blend into each other. One contest that always sparks the riders' interest and stands out from the rest is Wakestock in Canada. The crew from SBC Media puts on the event that has become the biggest wake spectacle each year! The action is non-stop. Whether they’re hitting the Oakley Rail Jam, riding behind the Malibu in the Expression Session or watching the famed bikini contest, the team always has a blast!
Our team has always seemed to have success in this event and 2007 was perhaps the best showing yet! Phillip Soven continued his complete dominance of the men’s wakeboard world this year as he repeated as the Expression Session champion! No other rider has won back-to-back in this event and no other rider in recent history has been on fire as much as Phillip!
Amber Wing continued her solid season as well, as she added the Women’s Expression Session title to her trophy collection. Not to be outdone, Shane “Rail Master” Bonifay came back to once again claim the Oakley Rail Jam “Best Trick” contest. According to Adam Levitt of SBC, “Shane Threw Down!” as he stuck a "switch front board backside 180 gap transfer to switch board slide to 90 out. I know confusing as all hell.”
Last, but not least, the Canadian local Kevin Henshaw came in a close 3rd in the boat rail jam. According to some in attendance, Kevin deserved to be in the round of two that determined the winner. Kevin was stoked to be on the podium and is looking to come back even stronger in 2008!
And in slightly older contest news, Team Liquid Force dominates the Portland Pro Tour Stop! For a team that doesn’t claim to be a contest team, we sure are good! Phillip Soven put the hammer down and won his 4th of 5 Pro Tour events and claimed his first Pro Tour Overall title! Phillip was the most consistent and most technical rider all weekend and showed that he’s ready to make a serious run at this season’s “King of the Wake” title.
On the women’s side, the battle was also won by the LF girls. The Portland Tour Stop podium was an invite-only Liquid Force Maven event. All three spots on the podium were taken by the Maven girls, with Shelby Kantar edging out Amber Wing for the top spot and young gun Nicola Butler rounding things out in 3rd. By winning the Portland Event, Shelby also claimed her first ever Women’s Pro Tour Overall Championship! Wrapping up LF’s winning ways was Jr. Men’s Champ Mitch Langfield. LF’s up and coming grom from Australia made that two victories in a row to end the season. Look for BIG things out of Mitch in the coming years!
BROstock #2 is officially in the books! If you weren’t at Lake Oroville for our second BROstock, you missed out on plenty of action and good times! The weather was perfect, the water warm and the beverages were flowing! If you were one of the lucky Nor Cal attendees, you saw tons of double up action all day on Saturday, including Shane Bonifay’s now famous toeside backside 720! It was the first time any pro had stuck this trick and was only fitting that Shane would do it. He had been trying the trick for a while now and said he just needed the “BROstock Magic” to help him stick it. If you haven’t seen the trick that will be in the running for “Move of the Year” at WakeBoarding Mag’s Wake Awards this fall, go to either www.alliancewake.com or WakeWorld.com, where you can see the footage that was captured by our team at the event.
After the BROstock festivities slowed down a bit, our team got to work on part two of our 2008 catalog shoot. Helping capture the action was Alliance’s Garrett Cortese. To get a sneak peak of our 2008 product line in action, go to Alliancewake.com to see what was captured. Special thanks to our friends at Bidwell Marina for the hospitality and the fine houseboat accommodations.
If you are on the East Coast and are wondering when you will get your chance at BROstock fun, the time has finally come! BROstock #3 is nearly upon us! New to the BROstock series in 2007 is Smith Mountain Lakes in Virginia. August 10th is when the fun will begin and it will last all through the weekend until the 12th. There will be a wakeboard demo with our pros on Friday at 4:00 and Saturday at 12:00. The rest of the time will be a bunch of friends hanging out on houseboats partying! There will be plenty of BROstock swag given away as well. Don’t miss your chance to score some free gear!
For info on the event, call our friends at Wake and Skateboard Shop in Moneta, Virginia at 540-721-1941. Be sure to ask them about the BBQ that’s happening at their shop on Thursday, August 9th. You’re all invited to join our riders as they kick off the BROstock weekend! Riders attending BROstock #3 include Aaron Reed, Danny Hampson, Shawn Watson, Collin Harrington, Amber Wing, Ben Greenwood, Silas Thurman, Stef Tor, Steph Wamsley, Brian Reeder, Matt Hirschbiel and many more!
