2007 Tige Pro-Am - Day 3 of 3

By WSM Press Release

CANCUN, Mexico — The best riders from around the world gathered at La Isla Mall in Cancun, Mexico today for the final round of competition at the 2007 Tigé Pro-Am Wakeboard Championships, presented by Rockstar Energy Drink.

The Pro Men's division featured a "skins" format; a style of competition allowing riders to continue riding, as long as they keep winning their heats. Phillip Soven (Longwood, FL) was the third rider off the dock today in the Pro Men’s Division. The 2007 world champion then proceeded to sweep the competition, winning all five heats. Claiming a total of six “skins” or wins throughout the contest, Soven captured the top spot to take home the title.

Emily Copeland Durham (Orlando, FL) and Raequel Hoffman (Butte Valley, CA) entered today’s Pro Women finals as the top-two seeded riders. Both shredders put together some stellar runs, but 2006 world champion Dallas Friday (Orlando, FL) rose above the competition to take home the title.

In the Pro Wakeskate division, all eyes were on Nick Taylor (Holmes Beach, FL) as the 2006 Tigé Pro-Am champion was on pace to repeat and take home his second consecutive Pro-Am title. However, in the final round of competition, 2007 world champion Reed Hansen (Groveland, FL) pulled-off the upset to capture the win.

2007 has undoubtedly been A.J. Racinelli’s year and today the Santa Ana, California rider solidified that statement by capturing the 2007 Tigé Pro-Am title for the Jr. Men’s Division. The Pro-Am victory marks Racinelli’s fourth win in the 2007 King of Wake series.

Bart Copeland (Denver, CO) took charge for the second straight day in the competition, claiming the title in the Open Men’s Division.

In the Latin American Division, Alejo Depalma took control out on the water to capture the title. Depalma beat out eight other riders, including brother Teki for the win.

The amateur divisions also took to the water today for their final rounds of competition. Cale Middleton (Hendersonville, TN) claimed the Amateur Boys title, while Ashley Hughes (Canyon Lake, CA) took first place in the Amateur Women’s Division. In the Amateur Wakeskate Division, Bobby Sutherland (St. Louis, MO) rode away with the win.
