2007 WWA Wake Park Series Final at Ski Rixen
By WWA Press Release
Ski Rixen hosted the final stop of the 2007 WWA Wake Park Series presented by Ten-80 this past weekend in Deerfield Beach, Florida. The event was the last stop of the cumulative series that was held at four locations across the country. There could not have been better weather for the event, as spectators poured into Quiet Waters Park throughout the day to watch the totally radical on-water action. The contest incorporated two new divisions including beginner and intermediate wakeboard that brought some of the newcomers of the sport to come out, ride and enjoy the event.
The crowd had their eye on Tommy Fooshee, who led the series in the Pro Men division coming into the last event. Tom had won the first stop at his home park, Texas Ski Ranch, as well as the Nationals at OWC and has been killing it all season long. As the Pro Men division moved on to the eight-man head-to-head finals, Fooshee found himself moving on to the top four and wound up getting taken out by local Ski Rixen rider, Marc Shuster.
Rob Mapp, another local Ski Rixen rider, came into the event in third place in the overall Wake Park Series standings and threw down all day long to make it into the Final head-to-head round against Shuster. Mapp, who won the KC Classic back in August, rode first in the head-to-head heat and completely killed it, landing a switch toeside 720 and a massive backside 720 off the kickers as well as an assortment of savory aerial maneuvers that left the crowd in complete awe.
After all was said and done, Tom Fooshee sealed up the series with his fourth place finish behind Donald Shelbrick and Rob Mapp overtook Josh Rice with the first place finish to come in second overall in the series.
As for the wakeskaters, once again Andrew Pastura made it very difficult on all the riders in his division by winning every heat he rode in on Saturday. His winning line in the finals consisted of a 3 shuv, backside bigspin, switch frontside bigspin, kickflip, varial flip and switch front bigspin off the last kicker and sealed the win to give him his second contest win of the series. Bret Little, another Texas native, sealed the overall series title with his fourth place finish in the final heat after winning two other stops including the series opener in Texas and the WWA Wake Park Nationals at OWC in September.
Anna Hajek of Orlando, Florida was the overall series winner for the Open Women division. Anna has stepped it up and progressed all season long landing frontside 720’s off the kicker at her home cable park, the Orlando Watersports Complex. Josh Bank out of Boca Raton, Florida took the overall series title in the Junior Men division. Josh rode solid all year long and sealed the overall series at his home cable of Ski Rixen. Look for these two to be training all winter long to come out and make a serious impact on their respective divisions next year.
