Portland Pro Tour Stop - Day 1 of 2

By WSM Press Release

Portland, OR – Fans came pouring into Blue Lake Park today to watch the best wakeboarders in the world compete in the opening rounds of the 2007 MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour season-ending event. With season titles on the line for the Pro Men, Pro Women, and Rip It JX Series Divisions, Portland area fans were treated to some of the most exciting and intense riding seen yet.

All eyes today were on Pro Men Division riders Danny Harf, Rusty Malinoski, Chad Sharpe and Phillip Soven, as all four shredders are in contention for the overall season title and the largest cash prize in tour history, the $10,000 Indmar Performance Award. Malinoski, Soven, Sharpe, and Harf not only advanced past today's quarterfinals, but each led their heats as well. Competition will conclude tomorrow where one of these four riders will be named tour champion.

Amber Wing led the Pro Women's Division today during their semifinals. With current division leader, Emily Copeland Durham, failing to advance past today's semifinals, Wing is now the frontrunner for the season title. However, it will not be easy for the Australia native, as Wing will be joined by Melissa Marquardt, Raequel Hoffman, Shelby Kantar, Sunni Anne Ball, Laura Lohrmann, Maeghan Major, and Nicola Butler for tomorrow's final round of competition.

AJ Racinelli is well on his way to claiming his fourth win of the season and possibly the overall title, after leading his heat today during the Rip It JX Series quarterfinals. Racinelli will ride against eight other riders in tomorrow's semifinals. The top four riders from the semifinals will then proceed to the final round of competition, where one rider will be crowned the overall winner.

Competition will begin tomorrow morning at 9:30.
